1. What is art and wellness therapy?

Art therapy and expressive arts therapy is a form of mental health therapy that uses creative expression to promote emotional, psychological, and physical healing. It can involve a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and more. 

 

2. Do I need to have artistic skills to participate in art and wellness?

No, you don't need to have any artistic skills to participate in art therapy and art and wellness mental health counselling. The focus is on the creative process rather than the end result, and I will guide you through the process and help you explore your feelings and emotions through your art and guide you to cultivate and experience more joy.

 

3. How can art help with stress and anxiety?

Creating art is an evidence based technique that can be a meditative and relaxing experience that can help reduce stress and anxiety. It can also help you process and express your emotions in a healthy and constructive way. Neuroscience research also shows that creating art together fosters new connections in the two hemispheres of the brain, promoting holistic healing and integrating emotions, body, spirit, and mind.

 

4. What are some examples of art activities for art therapy and mental health counselling?

All the techniques are intentionally chosen to integrate the body awareness with the conscious mind.  Some examples of art activities for wellness include: somatic (body) awareness art,  mindful art, creating a vision board, working with clay or sand. Art therapy and art and wellness mental health practices have been shown to cultivate joy, promoting a positive and empowering outlook on life.

 

6. Are you covered by insurance?

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), and sessions are eligible for coverage under most extended health insurance plans in Canada. Please check with your provider to confirm your specific coverage.

7. What are your rates?  

  • $160 per therapeutic hour (50-minute session)

  • Sliding Scale: Available upon request.

  • ​Arts-Based Sessions: 75 minutes at a rate of $240 per session.
